Seablue Innovators Website
A modern digital platform for Seablue Innovators, a Tanzanian social enterprise turning locally sourced seaweed into sustainable products while empowering coastal communities. I designed and developed the experience to combine product discovery, community storytelling, ocean conservation, coastal locations, and company content within a premium, responsive interface supported by a Administrator custom CMS that allows the Seablue team to manage their website independently.
- The problem
- The real value of Seablue Innovators goes far beyond the products they sell. Their work connects seaweed farming, local entrepreneurship, coastal communities, sustainability, and ocean conservation but communicating all of that through a conventional product website would fail to capture what makes the company different. The challenge was to make visitors understand both what Seablue creates and why their work matters.
- My role
- I worked as the Full-Stack Developer and Product Designer, responsible for translating Seablue Innovators’ business goals into a complete digital experience. My role covered UI/UX design, frontend and backend development, custom CMS implementation, content structure, performance, security, deployment, and the overall technical direction of the project.
- What I built
- I designed and developed the experience to combine product discovery, community storytelling, ocean conservation, coastal locations, and company content within a premium, responsive interface supported by a custom Administrator CMS that allows the Seablue team to manage their website independently.
- The approach
- I created a story-driven digital experience where products and impact exist side by side. Rather than treating the website as a catalogue, the experience introduces visitors to the people, places, products, and purpose behind Seablue Innovators. Interactive content, dedicated community and location sections, strong visual storytelling, and a custom Administrator CMS transformed the website into a digital representation of the company’s broader mission which is connecting sustainable business with Tanzania’s coastal communities.

Overview
Seablue Innovators is a modern digital platform created for a Tanzanian social enterprise transforming locally sourced seaweed into sustainable, value-added products while supporting coastal communities and promoting ocean conservation. The project was designed around a simple idea: Seablue is more than the products it sells. Its story connects seaweed farming, entrepreneurship, sustainability, coastal livelihoods, local communities, and environmental impact. The challenge was to bring all of these elements together in a way that felt clear, professional, and engaging without reducing the brand to a conventional product catalogue. I designed and developed the website as a story-driven digital experience where visitors can discover both what Seablue creates and why its work matters. The platform brings together product discovery, community initiatives, coastal farming locations, environmental stories, company information, team members, and educational content within a cohesive visual experience inspired by the ocean and the blue economy. Alongside the public website, I built a custom Administrator CMS that gives the Seablue team direct control over products, articles, locations, media, team information, and other website content. This allows the platform to grow alongside the organization without requiring a developer for every content update. The final result is more than a corporate website. It is a digital representation of Seablue Innovators wider mission which is bringing together sustainable products, local entrepreneurship, coastal communities, and ocean conservation within one cohesive experience.
Built a custom CMS so the site could evolve without code changes
The client needed to manage products, articles, farm locations, media, team information, and other site content without depending on a developer for every update. I built a custom admin CMS around the same application so content changes can be made independently of the public site. The CMS also keeps content management separate from the presentation layer, making the platform easier to maintain as the organization grows.
Chose an edge-first architecture for a fast global website
The public site was designed around Cloudflare Workers and related edge services rather than relying on a traditional always-on server. This keeps the application close to users geographically while providing a strong foundation for caching, security, and future scaling. The architecture also allows the public website and administrative application to operate within the same overall platform without introducing unnecessary infrastructure.
Separated media storage from application infrastructure
SeaBlue's content includes product photography, farm imagery, and video, so storing media directly with the application would make the system harder to scale and maintain. I used object storage for media assets, keeping large files separate from application data and allowing the CMS to manage those assets independently. This provides a cleaner separation between application logic, structured content, and media.
Separated the editorial experience from the public experience
The public website and content management interface serve very different purposes, so I treated them as separate experiences within the same platform. Visitors get a focused, content-driven website, while administrators get an interface optimized for managing and organizing content. This separation keeps the public experience clean while allowing the CMS to grow without complicating the customer-facing interface.
